At the time of the battle, Lee still had his right arm splinted and in a sling, and his left hand and wrist were bandaged and still partially splinted. The wearing of his sword and binoculars was impractical. His every need, such as dressing, mounting and dismounting, as well as hard riding, was assisted by special aides. By
