Smeaton's Eddystone Lighthouse, Devon mb-height 2571 The castle sits in theSmeaton's Eddystone Lighthouse, Devon, c1850. Built on the treacherous Eddystone Rocks by John Smeaton 1n 1756 1759, this was the third lighthouse on the site, 14 miles south of Plymouth, the previous two having been destroyed by storm and fire respectively.
